Inspection Guide

How to identify a compliant fire door

Master the 5-point check. Equip your compliance team with the standardized framework to efficiently identify correct certification marks, verify gap dimensions, and audit safety hardware.

01

Certification Marks

Locate and log the BWF-CERTIFIRE label, BM TRADA Q-Mark, or color-coded plugs installed on the top or hinge edge.

02

Check Gap Sizes

Verify perimeter gaps around the top and sides are under 3-4mm, and bottom threshold gaps comply with BS 8214 standards.

03

Intumescent Seals

Ensure fire and smoke seals are continuously intact along the frame or door edge, with no breaks, damage, or heavy paint coverage.

Approved Hinges

04

Audit the hardware. Confirm there are a minimum of three firmly fixed, CE-marked, fire-rated hinges with all correct screws present and completely undamaged.

Self-Closing Mechanism

05

Perform the functional close test. Verify that the closing device smoothly and reliably forces the door firmly shut onto the latch from any opening angle.
